My name is Matt Smith, your local Federal Member of Parliament.
I’m proud to represent our community in Parliament, standing up for a huge electorate from Cairns, Kuranda, Port Douglas, Mossman in the south going up through Cooktown, Weipa and all of Cape York all the way to the top of the Torres Strait.
I’ve been a huge champion for our region since I moved up here to join the Cairns Taipans. Since then I’ve been continuing to work to make our community better by helping deliver parks and playgrounds in my time working for Council and making our public service stronger by representing these workers as an organiser.
I am so passionate about our community and making sure all of us living here are being heard and that we all have the chance to get ahead. I know I want all our young people, like my daughters to have as many chances as they can right here in Far North Queensland.
I’m out and about in the community as much as possible to hear from people firsthand about the challenges they’re facing so I can make sure government is working for them. Hopefully, I will see you out and about in the tropics!
If you ever need help or want to make your voice heard feel free to stop in and see my team at my office in either Cairns or Thursday Island so we can try and help you.
As a Member, I have the privilege of serving Leichhardt in its entirety. From our regions to our cities, I endeavour to represent the people of Leichhardt in my new role both inside and outside the chamber.
What's Matt up to?
